Robert Fico, the Prime Minister of Slovakia, said “any attempt to interfere in Georgia’s internal affairs” through imposition of sanctions was a “red line for Slovakia”, in reference to the European Council’s decision to suspend visa-free travel for holders of Georgian diplomatic passports.
In a phone call between Fico and António Costa, the President of the European Council, the PM also called for an “objective assessment” of the current developments in Georgia, adding his Government country supported EU enlargement.
The Council’s decision comes following the Georgian Government’s decision last month to suspend European Union accession talks until 2028 and the domestic law enforcement’s response to ongoing protests in the country against the move.
