The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Levan Davitashvili, has stated that European companies show interest towards the Namakhvani HPP project.
When asked, whether the dispute would prevent the implementation of the project, the Minister answered as follows: "Unfortunately, we have disputes in some cases, although the decisions have been made based on the interests of the country, so that we implement the projects as effectively as possible and these projects serve the interests of the country, In this case, we are talking about the energy projects.
But despite the dispute, there will be a parallel process to implement this project at high standards together with an investor of high reputation and experience. The interest is mainly from European companies, although it is too early to talk about it, because the formal process has not started and we will not be able to provide the public with information yet."
To be reminded, the Namakhvani HPP was built by ENKA Renewables LLC, however, after the protest of the population and the decision of the government, its construction was stopped in 2021, and soon the Georgian government announced that they would build the hydroelectric power plant themselves. The dispute on the issue will continue in the arbitration court.
