Vice-President of the European Parliament, Pina Picierno, issued an urgent appeal to the Georgian authorities to release imprisoned journalist and Sakharov Prize laureate Mzia Amaglobeli, warning that her eyesight is rapidly deteriorating.
“I am deeply concerned to learn that Mzia Amaglobeli’s vision has declined dramatically — she reportedly retains only about 1% vision in one eye and 10% in the other,” Picierno wrote on social media. “Medical assessments conducted by prison doctors confirm an irreversible deterioration.”
Picierno stressed the urgency of the situation, calling on Georgia’s government to act swiftly: “I urgently appeal to the Georgian authorities to facilitate her release before it becomes too late to attempt saving her eyesight through specialized treatment abroad.”
