As the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia reports, the EU membership self-assessment questionnaire has been handed over to Georgia in Luxembourg. The questionnaire was handed over to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, Ilia Darchiashvili, by EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Olivér Várhelyi.
"Georgia is given 1 month to fill in the self-assessment questionnaire, and the final decision on granting Georgia the EU candidate status is planned to be made at the EU Council meeting scheduled for June this year.
By applying for EU membership and handing over the questionnaire to Georgia today, Georgia is moving to a qualitatively new, much more ambitious and important stage for the country in the process of EU integration.
This is a logical step in the EU procedure, which will assess the readiness of the country in various areas, including political, economic and legal compatibility," - the Foreign Ministry said.
