Lawrence Meredith, the Director for the European Union's Eastern Neighbourhood and Institution Building, called on his Twitter followers to spend the summer season in Georgia.
“If you're looking for a unique destination, consider exploring the beautiful country of Georgia”, Meredith said in his social media post, encouraging travelers to start the journey from the country's vibrant capital Tbilisi, which he said offered a wealth of surprises.
For nature lovers, Meredith recommended the country’s mountainous north-western region of Svaneti, telling them about the locality nestled in the heart of the Caucasus with its sites listed among the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
He also recommended visiting the Uplistsikhe cave town in central Georgia to explore the country’s “rich history”, and making sure not to miss the city of Batumi - which he called a “gem of Black Sea coast” - with its “stunning botanical garden, vibrant nightlife, and modern architecture”.
Lawrence Meredith also highlighted Georgia’s cuisine and wine and advised wine enthusiasts to visit the country's eastern region of Kakheti.
