The EU Delegation to Georgia has reaffirmed the European Union’s unwavering support for the German Ambassador to Georgia, Peter Fischer. The mission shared this message on X (formerly Twitter).
“Our solidarity with the German Ambassador. As stated by the HRVP spokesperson, the EU rejects and condemns the disinformation and baseless accusations regarding the EU and its Member States’ role and activities in Georgia,” the statement reads.
Furthermore, the EU Mission shared Peter Fischer’s post, in which the German Foreign Office expressed its support for the diplomat.
“The Federal Foreign Office firmly rejects and condemns the baseless accusations by Mr. Papuashvili. We are worried that by spreading disinformation and divisive narratives, he is actively undermining Germany-Georgia relations. We firmly reject the continuing aggressive rhetoric by representatives of the Georgian Dream towards the German Ambassador. The German ambassador in Tbilisi represents the position of the Federal Government. Germany reiterates its call on the Georgian authorities to stop spreading false narratives regarding EU and German positions and policies and to change its current political course,” the ministry stated.
Papuashvili had claimed that Fischer expressed support for individuals who, at the time, were attacking the ruling party’s Tbilisi headquarters with what he described as “fascist chants.”
