The Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Kakha Kakabadze, together with the representatives of the National Forestry Agency, met with the Director General of the French National Forestry Office Valérie Metrich-Hecquet, as part of a working visit to Paris.
The parties discussed the issues of sanitary condition of forests, biodiversity and sustainable forest management, cooperation with environmental non-governmental and scientific organizations and communication with the local population. At the meeting, the representative of the French National Forests Office introduced the prepared strategy regarding climate change to the Georgian side.
"Part of the challenges that Georgia's forestry sector is facing today is also a challenge for the French side. Climate change and its negative impact on forests, pest and disease management and other similar issues require decisions not only at the national level. We think that the experience of France will help us to improve our approaches. Georgia is taking an important step on the path of European integration, a number of important reforms are underway, and among them, taking the country's national interests into account, the forestry reform has a special place", - the Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Kakha Kakabadze noted.
