“In 2022, the revenues from electricity export amounted to 84.3 million USD,” - the Galt and Taggart study says.
According to the reports, the value of electricity import in the reporting period was $41.2 million. Consequently, the trade surplus was equal to $43.2 million, although quantitatively, Georgia is still a net importer - with a net import of 0.6 TWh.
"In 2022, electricity consumption increased by 3.3% annually and amounted to 14.2 TWh. It should be noted that the electricity consumption increased by 9.8% in the first half of the year, and decreased by 2.7% in the second half. The latter is related to the decline in the production of Georgian manganese, metallurgical and mining companies. Demand for electricity was mainly met by hydro generation, which accounted for 68.3% of the total supply. 21.5% of the consumption was met by the generation of thermal plants, and 9.7% of the consumption - by import," - the study says.
