
According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), at least since 2009, Turkey has been the largest trade partner for Georgia.
In 2022, the trade turnover between the two countries reached more than $2.8 billion, which is the largest indicator compared to all other countries.
Turkey's share in the total trade turnover last year was approximately 14.6%.
However, in the first quarter of 2023, the trade turnover was the highest - 673.7 million USD - with Turkey. Turkey's share in total imports this year is 14.1%. The growth of the economy is accompanied and determined by the growth of foreign trade. In parallel with the annual growth of foreign trade, the trade with Turkey is also increasing every year, and both in 2022 and in the first quarter of the current year, it reaches a historical maximum.
As for direct foreign investments, as of 2022, Turkish investors have invested 106.5 million US dollars in Georgia, which is the seventh highest figure among the countries.
It should also be said that investments from Turkey reached a historical maximum in 2017 and amounted to 256.2 million US dollars.
Turkish citizens often visit Georgia. According to the GEOSTAT, 925,561 were made visits from the neighboring country in 2022, which the second highest figure after Russia. In 2020-21, Turkey ranked 1st in this regard.
