Alkis Drakinos, Regional Head of the Caucasus for the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), praised the Middle Corridor as an important initiative, emphasizing Georgia’s key role. He described the Caucasus as a vital link connecting Asia and Europe and expressed the bank’s strong interest in supporting the project.
“The Middle Corridor is a great concept, and Georgia sits at its heart,” Drakinos said. “The Caucasus plays a crucial role in linking Asia with Europe, and the EBRD is keen to be involved in all discussions and projects to make this corridor a viable route.”
Drakinos noted that the EBRD has already invested in railway and road projects in Georgia and in studies to improve port efficiency. “We are ready to support any opportunity that makes sense. We are here to learn, contribute, and help make this corridor a driver of prosperity and peace for the wider region,” he added.
