
The Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili met with the Secretary General of the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili.
The Deputy Ministers Mariam Kvrivishvili and Irakli Nadareishvili also attended the meeting. The parties discussed the priority areas of the current and future cooperation between Georgia and the UN World Tourism Organization. The recovery dynamics of Georgia's tourism sector, which is one of the highest in the region, was positively evaluated. It was noted that in the past period of 2022, the incomes received from tourism reached a record level, exceeding the indicator of the same period of 2019 by 20.4% and amounting to $476.1 million.
It was said that the current positive trends in the field were stipulated by the economic policy of the Government of Georgia, as well as the effective activities of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development and the National Tourism Administration of Georgia in the potential target markets.
The conversation also touched on the issue of raising the qualifications of the staff employed in the tourism sector of Georgia and the possibility of support from the UN World Tourism Organization in this direction. It was said that the cooperation between the parties will continue in the direction of raising the quality of education in the field, as well as attracting foreign investments and introducing innovations.
