
The President of Georgia Salome Zurabishvili is paying an official visit to Bucharest at the invitation of the President of Romania. She will hold high-level meetings on October 11-12.
What is the dynamics of the development of economic relations between Georgia and Romania over the years? There are relatively good data in the direction of foreign trade between countries. In this case, Romania is among the ten largest import markets of Georgia. The trade turnover between the countries in 8 months of this year amounted to $229.2 million, exceeding the figure of the same period of last pandemic years, and it is 50 million dollars behind the turnover rate obserevd in 2019.
In January-August, Georgia bought various goods worth of 207 million US dollars in Romania, which is 96.6% higher than the figure recorded last year. Romania, with a share of 2.5%, ranks eighth among Georgia’s top-ten trading partner countries for imports. During this period, the main import goods were oil and oil products.
As for exports, in 8 months of this year, Georgia received a total of $22.1 million from the sale of goods, which is higher than the figure of the pandemic years, however, compared to 2019 (142.9 million US dollars), exports have decreased.
As for the tourism sector, 3 114 visits to Georgia were made from Romania in January-September of this year. Based on the official statistics, it can be seen that this indicator exceeds the data of the same periods of 2020-2021. The statistics reveal that the number of visits from Romania to Georgia has recovered by 59.3% in 9 months.
