
Natia Turnava, the Acting Governor of the National Bank of Georgia, highlighted the importance of promoting diversity and equity in the financial sector to strengthen the domestic economy, during her speech at the 2024 Accountants’ Summit in Tbilisi.
Speaking at the event running under the theme Strong Women in Finance, Turnava outlined both opportunities and challenges faced by women in leadership roles within the Georgian financial sector, and emphasized the central bank’s efforts to create an inclusive environment both within the organisation and within its supervisory mandate.
"The measures taken by the NBG are aimed at creating a safe environment in the sector, where talent, potential and hard work are valued regardless of gender”, Natia Turnava said.
Turnava detailed targeted regulations and strategic initiatives implemented to empower women, aiming to dismantle existing barriers and open up new opportunities for female leaders.
The Acting Governor noted the central bank had been following the best international practices to enhance inclusivity within the financial landscape.
The Summit, co-organized by the Gender Equality Council and the Association of Accountants, also featured participation from Nino Tsilosani, the Vice-Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia and Chair of the Council, and Ekaterine Guntsadze, the Deputy Minister of Finance.
