The government of Georgia is approving a second wave of regulations for the gambling sector. A license fee will be imposed for online gambling. In addition, the volume of fines is scheduled to increase. Despite the fact that the rules for the sector have been tightened since March 1, the Head of the Gambling Policy Division of the Ministry of Finance of Georgia, Lasha Pitnava, says that in 2022 the turnover of the sector will increase even more.
"According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), the gambling sector revenue has really increased. As of 2021, the turnover was GEL 48 billion, in 2020 – GEL 32 billion, and in 2022, it will be even more. According to the data of 11 months, the budget received GEL 563 million. One month is still ahead. It is likely that revenues will also increase," – Pitnava said.
