This visit is important to plan timely and relevant challenges in order to rehabilitate the Leville estate and arrange a Georgian cultural center on the ground.
In the summer of this year, based on the decision of the Government of Georgia, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs handed over the further leadership of the project on rehabilitation works and creation of a cultural center at the Leville estate to the Ministry of Culture.
The Leville estate, acquired by the government of the First Democratic Republic of Georgia in France, after 25 years of fruitless negotiations, was returned to Georgia in 2016 through the efforts of the State Minister for Diaspora Affairs, Gela Dumbadze and then-Minister of Justice, Tea Tsulukiani. The land rehabilitation project, the implementation of which was launched by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia in 2017, was officially named the “Historical and cultural Georgian-French memorial center - Leuville's Georgian Academy of the first republic of Georgia”and the Georgian government committed to complete rehabilitation of the estate within 10 years.
Due to the efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Georgia, the first part of the work, the so-called "Orangerie project", as a result of which 150 sq.m. of living space, was improved, the yard, access and its surrounding area were paved on 150 sq.m. of living space.
