
The import of corn into Georgia has decreased sharply. According to the data published by the Georgian National Statistics Office (GEOSTAT), 8.9 thousand tons of corn entered the country in 8 months of 2022, which is 82.5% less than last year's figure of 51 thousand tons and is the lowest rate in at least 14 years.
As for the value, Georgian importers paid 5.9 million USD for this grain this year, which is also the lowest since 2010 - last year this number was 14.7 million USD.
Like the previous year, Georgia’s biggest importer is still Russia, and the list of the 5 largest suppliers is as follows:
1. Russia - 7.57 thousand tons;
2. Turkey - 655.7 tons;
3. France - 155 tons;
4. South Africa - 130 tons;
5. Austria - 116 tons.
