Control over boxwood cutting is tightening in Georgia as Palm Sunday [Bzoba] approaches

The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia is tightening control over boxwood cutting across the country in connection with the approach of the Palm Sunday [Bzoba]. Cutting boxwood, uprooting or damaging its branches is considered a punishable act.
The amount of the sanction is a fine of GEL 500-1000, and if the environmental damage exceeds GEL 1000, the case is qualified as criminal.
Boxwood can be obtained only from privately owned nurseries and artificially laid out plantations, based on the relevant certificate of a place of origin issued by the local self-government body.
