A new bridge is under construction next to the historic Pompey’s Bridge across the Mtkvari River in the town of Mtskheta. The project, implemented by the Roads Department of Georgia, carries a value of 6.6 million GEL.
The original bridge, built in 1926, is considered outdated and no longer meets modern safety and infrastructure standards. In response, the new structure has been designed to meet the architectural, aesthetic, and historical context of Mtskheta while ensuring the smooth and safe flow of traffic.
The Mtskheta bridge is a critical transportation link, serving as the sole connection between the city and Tbilisi. It also connects Mtskheta with the railway station and key regional routes, including the Zahesi-Mtskheta-Kavtishkevi-Gori-Kareli-Osiauri highway.
Once completed, the new bridge will significantly improve regional mobility and preserve the cultural integrity of one of Georgia’s most historically significant towns.
