Organized by the Georgian National Food Agency and supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Agriculture Program, a conference was held to discuss the quality and export of walnut crops.
As the Georgian National Food Agency reported, the conference was attended by the Chairman of the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Foundation (INC) Pino Calcagni. The event was opened by the head of the Georgian National Food Agency, Zurab Chekurashvili, who addressed the participants, highlighting the potential and challenges for the development of walnut crops in Georgia.
"It is important that another representative meeting was held in Georgia on the prospects for the development of walnut crops. The individuals involved in the sector had the opportunity to get information on the global trends. Against the background of the existing challenges, it is important to maintain and improve the high quality of the crop, which Georgia’s Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture and the National Food Agency are closely cooperating on with the business sector," - said Zurab Chekurashvili.
The Chairman of the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Foundation (INC) Pino Calcagni summed up the current global situation and noted that, despite the pandemic, Georgia has maintained positive dynamics in the development of the sector.
"The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has been implementing a number of programs for more than 10 years, assisting Georgian farmers in developing the walnut crop industry," said Luiza Namicheishvili, the USAID Agriculture Program Officer.
The conference was attended by exporters, representatives of walnut crop associations and the business sector operating in Georgia.
The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Foundation (INC) was established in 1980 and today has more than 850 representations in 80 countries.
