Companies registered in Georgia, operating in the land transport sector, be able to establish themselves in the EU market

Levan Gamkrelidze, Director of the Land Transport Agency of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, met with the heads of the companies operating in the international road transport sector and talked about the current situation in the field, challenges and ways to overcome them. According to the Ministry, the meeting was organized by the Georgian International Road Carriers Association.

"Levan Gamkrelidze focused on bilateral intergovernmental agreements on international traffic" signed with 34 partner countries.

Emphasis was also placed on the ECMT (European Conference of Ministers of Transport/International Transport Forum) multilateral permit procedure, which allows a permit holder to carry out international road freight in 44 member countries.

"Georgia is a transit country and the transport corridor connecting Europe and Asia passes through it. Thus, it is important that the companies registered in Georgia, operating in the land transport sector, be able to establish themselves in the EU market. We are actively negotiating with the EU countries to increase the shipping quota for Georgian companies. We have shared the state's approach to the private sector working in the field and introduced the planned events and agreed on the positions. We talked about the challenges in the field and security issues," - Levan Gamkrelidze said.

It was noted at the meeting that the Land Transport Agency had undergone a staff reorganization and the staff was added to improve services, separating those responsible for obtaining, manufacturing and issuing permits. In addition, the Ministry's website has been updated, and a hotline service has been launched to reduce customer queues and save time.

A new office has also been opened in Tbilisi, which is fully equipped with new technologies, and it is also planned to add a branch in Kutaisi. The meeting highlighted the effective and businesslike communication between the Agency's administration and the private sector working in the field of international road transport. It was noted that communication will continue between the Agency's administration and the private sector operating in the international road transport sector. Along with the heads of the international road transport companies, Nikoloz Gvenetadze, First Deputy of the Agency, and Gia Tsipuria, Head of the Georgian International Road Carriers Association, also took part in the meeting,” - the statement reads.
