“Irakli Kovzanadze, the Chairman of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Parliament of Georgia, held a working meeting with James John, the Head of the Mission of the International Monetary Fund,’’ - the press service of the Parliament reports.
Reportedly, the economic situation of the country and existing challenges were discussed at the meeting. The conversation touched on the legislative initiatives adopted and planned by the Parliament in monetary, financial and budgetary issues.
The parties discussed the current situation in the banking sector, the performance indicators of the 2022 state budget and the main parameters of the 2023 state draft budget. Emphasis was also placed on high inflation. As Irakli Kovzanadze noted, the revised version of the draft budget will be returned to the parliament by the end of the week.
"In light of the existing challenges, the 2023 budget should ensure fiscal and monetary stability and, most importantly, reduce inflation,"- the Committee Chairman said.
The permanent representative of the IMF in Georgia, Selim Chakir, attended the meeting held in the Parliament. The evaluation mission of the International Monetary Fund started working in Georgia last week.
