“The activities of the leading Austrian freight companies in Europe, Rail Cargo, Metrans and Bahnoperator, serve to move the Northern European hub to southern and central Europe, for which the trans-Caspian international transport route is crucial,” - the Head of the Austrian Federal Railways Andreas Matthä announced.
As reported by the agency Trend, to this end, a Memorandum of Understanding and Cooperation was signed between ADY Container, a subsidiary of Azerbaijan Railways, and Austrian Rail Cargo in Austria. The parties will work together to ensure a continuous and fast delivery of multimodal rail freight from Europe via the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, and increase the volume of shipments from the Romanian Port of Constanța to the Georgian port of Poti, and then to Central Asia and China.
With the support of ASCO, as part of the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, ADY Container, together with the Georgian companies, GR Logistics and KTZ Express, will start transporting cargo between the ports of Poti and of Constanța. The ship SHAIR VAGIF will operate three times a month for 10 days between the mentioned ports.
Rail Cargo operates in 18 countries. It has 12 international logistics centers and 16 terminals. The company's annual shipments amount to approximately 94 million tons of cargo. The company Metrans ensures the departure of 200 units of train per week. Its annual freight capacity is 1.4 million TEU, while the company Bahnoperator sends 20 container trains a week from China to Europe, which is quite a high figure.
The Austrian side says that in the light of the current regional situation, the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route should be used more efficiently through joint efforts and the volume of multimodal rail freight from China to Europe and from Europe to China, as well as from the Central Asia to Europe and vice versa should be increased.
