The Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia published the cargo turnover statistics of the Georgian ports. In accordance with the document, the volume of cargo handled in both the Batumi and Poti Ports has increased. The amount of cargo transported by the Georgian Railway has also increased.
Shipments handled in the first half of 2022:
The Batumi Port - 2.5 million tons, an increase of 0.7 million tons compared to the previous year;
The Poti Port - 3.8 million tons, an increase of 0.3 million tons compared to the previous year.
It should be noted that the container cargo turnover has also increased. In January-June, 221 thousand containers were handled, which is 17 149 units more compared to the same period last year. Of these, 167,000 containers were handled in Poti and 54,000 containers in Batumi.
As for ground transportation, 13.5 million tons of cargo were transported by road, and 6.8 million tons by railway, which is 800 thousand tons more than the result of 6 months of 2021.
In total, cargo turnover in the transit corridor of Georgia amounted to 20.4 million tons, which is 1 million tons more than the volume recorded in the previous year.
