The candidate status granted to Georgia only two months ago already shows its benefits, said Olivér Várhelyi, European Commissioner for Neighbourhood and Enlargement, at a joint press conference with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, and the Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Kobakhidze, following the meeting of the Georgia-EU Association Council.
“I think that the candidate status granted to Georgia only two months ago already shows its benefits and pays dividends not only for Georgia and the Georgian people but also for the European Union.
We’ve agreed to speed up our work, be it the progress on the EU path and the nine steps that still need to be done, be it the implementation of the economic and investment plan, be it the economic reform of overall Georgia to make it truly European country and make it part of the European single market,” - Várhelyi said.
