“By granting the status of IDA donor country, Georgia will be given the opportunity to express solidarity and make its own contribution to the activities of the International Development Association of the World Bank Group in the international arena,” - Lasha Khutsishvili, the Minister of Finance, the World Bank Manager from Georgia, said at the 30th anniversary celebration of the partnership between the World Bank and Georgia.
According to him, today Georgia officially joined the International Development Association of the World Bank Group as a donor country.
"Today is another proof of the history of the impressive development of our cooperation. We are proud and grateful to the World Bank for this opportunity. I must emphasize that through the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD), the International Development Association (IDA), the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other institutions of the Bank, the assistance of the World Bank has always been timely, effective and fully aligned with Georgia's development priorities,” - Lasha Khutsishvili said.
As the Minister noted, cooperation with the World Bank is valuable not only in terms of financial assistance. According to him, the analytical or consulting support provided by the bank for each project or program is important.
Lasha Khutsishvili also drew attention to the importance of human capital development reform and the investments made by the World Bank in this direction.
While delivering a speech, he spoke about the reforms that are being implemented in the country with the support of the World Bank, including the reform of the state finance management. According to the Minister, the ongoing projects and programs supported by the World Bank are in line with the plans of the Georgian government.
The Finance Minister also touched upon the financial assistance received from the World Bank in the context of the global pandemic, through which important measures were taken in the country, both in the direction of the disease prevention, diagnosis and equipping medical institutions, as well as financing the targeted social programs.
At the end of the speech, the Finance Minister thanked the World Bank and its regional representative office for their cooperation and expressed hope that the mentioned partnership will continue even more successfully.
