The Black Sea submarine cable project is of strategic importance not only for Georgia but also for the European Union, stated Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chairman of the Georgian Parliament’s Foreign Relations Committee.
Samkharadze welcomed the European Commission’s decision to designate the project as a “Project of Mutual Interest,” calling it a highly positive development.
“This is a geopolitical initiative that will connect the Georgian and European energy systems. We applaud this decision. It is encouraging when the European Union makes choices based on its strategic interests, and such measures will always have our support,” he said.
With this status, the Black Sea submarine cable project—which aims to link Georgia’s electricity network with the EU—will receive strategic, legal, and financial backing from the European Union.
