For the second time, Batumi City Court has found Mzia Amaglobeli, founder of the online newspapers Batumelebi and Netgazeti, guilty of an administrative offense.
Judge Mariana Pomaeva imposed a 1,000 lari fine on Amaglobeli for displaying a protest poster. The ruling followed testimony from two law enforcement officers and one protest participant.
Amaglobeli’s defense contended that she is being prosecuted twice for the same incident. However, a representative from the Ministry of Internal Affairs argued that the two charges are distinct—one for allegedly insulting law enforcement officers, and the other for the act of displaying the poster.
Amaglobeli was previously fined 2,000 lari on the first charge. She did not attend the latest hearing in protest of the proceedings.
Meanwhile, the criminal case against her remains ongoing, with the next substantive hearing scheduled for 23 June.
