Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, and Georgia’s railway operators have agreed to establish a unified long-term tariff for cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route, also known as the Middle Corridor, according to Azerbaijani media citing Kazakhstan Railways.
This move is a key component of the “Action Plan for Eliminating Bottlenecks in the Middle Corridor,” which was signed by the national railway companies—Kazakhstan Railways, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY), and Georgian Railways—during the New Silk Way International Transport & Logistics Business Forum held in Almaty.
The plan is designed to enhance the efficiency and competitiveness of the Middle Corridor, a strategic Eurasian route linking China, Central Asia, and Europe. It focuses on the integration of logistics processes and the joint development of critical transport infrastructure.
Core objectives of the agreement include:
Implementing a single long-term tariff across the route
Expanding transit capacity
Upgrading port, railway, and logistics infrastructure
Addressing logistical bottlenecks
Digitalizing transport and customs procedures
Kazakhstan Railways emphasized that the agreement represents a significant step forward in transforming the Middle Corridor into a sustainable and competitive trade route vital to the region’s economic connectivity.
