
The first direct flight from Vienna to the Tbilisi International Airport was performed by Austrian Airlines, the leading Austrian airline. The new European airline will carry out direct regular flights on the Vienna-Tbilisi-Vienna route 3 times a week with an Airbus A320 aircraft. The United Airports of Georgia has successfully completed the 2-year negotiation process with the airline.
According to Irakli Karkashadze, the General Director of the United Airports of Georgia, Austrian Airlines is a novelty for the Georgian aviation market, and Vienna is one of the most popular destinations for both tourist and business visits.
The first inaugural flight from Vienna was welcomed by the Austrian Ambassador to Georgia Thomas Mühlmann, the Sales Director of Austrian Airlines in Eastern Europe and Israel Stephan Linhart, the General Director of the United Airports of Georgia Irakli Karkashadze and representatives of Tbilisi and Batumi Airports operator Tav Georgia.
Founded in 1957, it is a subsidiary of the Lufthansa Group. The Star Alliance member airline flies to 130 destinations in 55 countries. Its fleet consists of 70 aircraft, most of which are Airbus A320 aircraft.
