Despite the ongoing war in the region and the problem created in the logistics, the export of the Georgian agricultural products continues to grow. As Gela Khanishvili, the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture stated, as of January-April, the increase in exports of agricultural products exceeded 20% compared to the same period last year.
Khanishvili considers the increase in transportation to be one of the obstacles to sales and added that active work is underway to diversify the market.
“At this stage, we export to several European countries. It is true that it does not differ in quantity, but the percentages increase. The same can be said about different crops, including livestock, which is constantly growing,"- said Khanishvili, adding that active work is underway to enable the Georgian companies to participate in global exhibitions and become more popular in foreign markets.
"Throughout the year, we spend GEL 9-10 million only on wine exhibitions and these markets. The exhibitions we participate in do not include any markets in the post-Soviet space. We focus on Europe, America, Asian countries and Japan. Every year new markets are developed and positions are strengthened. Intensive product exports are starting now. This year (January-April) the export rate of agricultural products has increased by more than 20%. The main obstacle is prices. Shipping to Europe cost 3-4 thousand euros and it increased to 10 thousand euros, prices increased in the range of 29-35%, which is what all countries are worried about, but this is a real fact, the war affected all markets. Unfortunately, everything that happens in other countries also affects our economy," - Gela Khanishvili said.
As for the export of agricultural products, in 2021, agri-food products worth USD 1,142 million were exported from Georgia, which is 21% more than the indicator in the same period of 2020.
During this period, agri-food products were exported to 99 countries.
