“As of February, $183 million was transferred to Georgia from abroad, which is 13.6% more than in the same period last year. Among the donor countries, Italy ranked 1st with a 18%-share ($ 33 million), followed by Russia with a 12%-share ($ 22 million). After a 32% decline, Ukraine moved to the 9th place with $ 5.1 million. In February last year, Russia's share in remittances was 15.5%, 3 years ago it was 25%, while more than 34% - 7 years ago,” - the National Bank of Georgia reports.
The United States ranked 3rd with $ 21 million in remittances, followed by Greece with $ 15.5 million. Transfers from Israel, Kazakhstan and Germany also exceeded $10 million. The largest increase of 680% was observed from Kazakhstan.
After Kazakhstan, the largest increase of 225% was recorded in the transfers from Kyrgyzstan among those countries from which more than $ 1 million was transferred in February. A growth rate of money transfer from the UK reached 122%, while 116% - from Tajikistan. As for the decline after Ukraine, most remittances fell by 22% from Greece, and by 20% - from Azerbaijan.
Along with remittances, the amount of transfers from Georgia to abroad increased by 27.5% to $ 26.7 million.
