Archaeologists have uncovered a remarkable chain mail shirt dating back to the 9th or 10th century during excavations at a palace site within the Rustavi Fortress.

The archaeological expedition, launched in July and organised by Rustavi City Hall, has been exploring the remains of a medieval palace complex.

In addition to the chain mail, the team unearthed several notable artefacts, including a helmet from the same period—a discovery of exceptional significance, as it is the only known example of its kind in the South Caucasus among military relics from that era.
