The turnover of enterprises engaged in gambling activities is growing at a record level. In 2021, the turnover of gaming business amounted to GEL 47.938 billion. This is GEL 15.847 billion more than the data of 2020, and GEL 22.078 billion more than 2019. As a whole, the share of gambling business in the total turnover of the business sector increased to 32% last year. To be informed, in 2020 this figure was 28%, and in 2019 - 23.7%.
Gambling in Georgia is still one of the most profitable businesses, and its turnover is increasing at a record level every year.
As for other data - according to the data published by the Georgian National Statistics Office (GEOSTAT), in 2021, a total of 9,868 people worked in the gambling business, the average salary was GEL 1,881. Besides, GEL 93 million was invested in this sector last year.
It should be noted that in the pandemic year 2021, the turnover of the entire business sector in Georgia amounted to GEL150.4 billion, and the share of gambling business is almost 32%. Only the trade sector has more turnover (by 36.4% - GEL 54.678 billion turnover in 2021) than gambling business.
To be informed, since 2018, the evaluation of the activities of enterprises engaged in gambling activities has been started with a new methodology. Until 2018, only the amount of money deposited by the players was reflected in the trading volume of the enterprises of the mentioned sector, and according to the new methodology led bythe GEOSTAT since 2018, together with the mentioned amount, the sum of the bets made by the players is reflected in the trading volume.
