“Achieving the high economic growth was possible by a correct, reasonable, policy based on national interests, and not by an emotional and immature, anti-state policy, which our opponents urged us to pursue,” – the Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili announced at the government meeting.
Irakli Gharibashvili thanked everyone for effective work.
"Dear friends, taking into account the high economic growth, the preparation of changes to be made to the current year's budget is on the agenda, and these changes are focused on achieving two main goals.
The first is to reduce the budget deficit and government debt. As you know, the combined budget was planned with a deficit of 4.4% of GDP and a government debt of 51%. According to the presented changes, this year we will have 710 million GEL less debt than planned in the budget. Given such strong economic parameters, by the end of the year, the government debt will decrease to 40% of GDP from 51%, which is also a very good indicator. At the same time, the volume of the budget deficit decreases from 4.4% of GDP to 3.2% of GDP. In parallel with the reduction of the deficit and debt, we must direct additional funds, on the one hand, to finance the commitments made, and on the other hand, to various directions, be it police, army, infrastructure, financing of enterprises, agriculture, social policy, health care or sports.
In conclusion, our expectation is that this positive dynamic will continue and we will have the same successful year as we had last year. Mr. Finance Minister is ready to talk about this in detail with the media, we will have a discussion about it in the parliament, and once again I want to thank you all for such effective work," said Irakli Gharibashvili.
