According to the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia Levan Davitashvili, the Abu Dhabi Ports Corporation of the United Arab Emirates became interested in the development of the deep-water port of Anaklia. AD Ports Group itself is a state-owned company under the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. The minister said other companies had also expressed interest in the port.
“Under the order of the state, the company MTBS is re-preparing the document of the commercial justification of the port, which will be presented to the interested investors. The government also plans to select an international legal firm, which will work on the preparation of the terms of the new contract," said Levan Davitashvili.
To be reminded, in January 2020, the Georgian government terminated the contract with the Anaklia Development Consortium, which was followed by an appeal to the Arbitration Court by the Consortium, as well as one of its investors, Bob Meyer.
The Anaklia Development Consortium disputes that the destructive steps taken by the Georgian government have halted the implementation of this infrastructure project, which has caused significant financial losses to the investors.
At the time of termination of the contract, the Anaklia Development Consortium had already invested $74 million in the project, including $35 million already spent on dredging to deepen their seabed, and the remaining funds - on marine, ecological and engineering studies and projects.
