In January-July 2024, the import volume of tomatoes into Georgia increased by 50%. According to the data published by the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GEOSTAT), tomatoes worth more than $8.06 million were imported in seven months of last year, and worth more than $12.1 million - in the same period this year.
Last year, the import price of 1 kg has increased to 60 cents from 42 cents. This means that the import of the Georgian tomatoes became more expensive by 43%.
It should also be noted that the largest part of tomatoes has been imported from Turkey this year. More specifically, Turkey's share in tomato imports exceeded 99%.
