,,99% of Georgian citrus are exported to the CIS countries," - the review of ISET research institute says.
As mentioned in the December agro-review of ISET, the tangerine season is currently in its active phase.
"According to the forecast of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture, this year's citrus harvest will reach 55,000 tons. It should be noted that 90% of the citrus fruits grown in Georgia are tangerines, while the amount of oranges and lemons is relatively small. Tangerines are mainly grown in Adjara (70%), Guria (18%), Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti (10%) and Imereti (2%).
Despite the decline in citrus production, the export rate is generally increasing, but changing. More than 99% of products are exported to the CIS countries, and only 1% to the EU.
It is noteworthy that 58% of the citrus are exported to Russia, which emphasizes the dependence of the industry on the market of the CIS countries, especially Russia," - the document reads.
