,,98.5% of forests in Georgia are of natural origin," - the study prepared by the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia on the state and characteristics of forests in Georgia reads.
,,The field work of the national forest registration was carried out throughout the country in 2019-2021, and during the years 2022-2023, the data obtained as a result of the field work was processed and the corresponding report and recommendations were prepared based on the results.
According to the results of the national forest census, the area (including the temporarily occupied territories, is 3,100,500 hectares, which is 44.5% of the total territory of the country) covered by woody plants of Georgia.
Moreover, 98.5% of the country's forests are of natural origin. However, it is noted in the study that artificially planted mostly pine groves (1.5%) can be found in all regions of Georgia.
