9 years have passed since the tragedy of June 13. On June 13, 2015, the overflowing of the Vere River in Tbilisi killed 21 people, two went missing, and hundreds were injured.
The disaster destroyed residential houses, roads, bridges, tunnels, retaining walls and communication systems. The city infrastructure was affected, including the Vake-Saburtalo Connection Highway, the road connecting Kojori-Samadlo and the Akhaldaba-Tskneti road section.
The territory of Mziuri and the zoo was completely flooded. A large part of the animals died in the flood, and a small part escaped from the aviaries and ran into the city. Thus, 5 lions, 6 tigers, 6 bears, 13 wolves and a behemoth were found in the streets of Tbilisi.
The Vere River overflowed in 1960 and 1963, as well as in 1972 and 1995.
