Orange harvest in Adjara is in active phase. The chairman of the government of Adjara Tornike Rizhvadze, the Minister of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia Otar Shamugia and the Minister of Agriculture of Adjara Zaza Shavadze got acquainted with the progress of the citrus season on the spot. They visited a citrus receiving and processing plant and a non-standard citrus canning factory.
According to forecast data, 55 thousand tons of citrus will be harvested this year. During the season, more than 20 citrus receiving and processing enterprises receive export tangerines. As of today, up to 27,000 tons of standard mandarins have been exported, and 4,600 tons have been received and processed.
Under the decision of the government of Adjara, the subsidy on non-standard mandarins for industrial processing has doubled and amounts to 30 Tetris per 1 kg of mandarins.
In order to conduct the orange harvest in an organized manner, with the support of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Agriculture of Georgia and the Government of Adjara, the Ministry of Agriculture of Adjara launched a coordination headquarters for the sale of citrus in the region, the main goal of which is to ensure the smooth flow of the tangerine delivery process.
