The Georgian National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) announced on Wednesday that 130,000 individuals have been vaccinated as part of the seasonal anti-flu vaccination campaign to date.
The NCDC reported that the vaccination is being administered using a four-component vaccine manufactured by Abbott Biologicals B.V., a global healthcare company based in the Netherlands. The vaccine is recommended by the World Health Organization.
Eka Adamia, the Deputy Director of the NCDC, highlighted that influenza viruses, including types A and B, as well as other viruses such as rhinovirus and adenovirus, are circulating both globally and within Georgia this season.
To prevent the spread of the virus, Adamia emphasized the importance of practicing good hygiene, including regular hand washing, using disinfectants, wearing face masks in crowded places, and ensuring proper ventilation of rooms. However, she underscored that vaccination is the most crucial measure, as it remains one of the safest and most effective safeguards against the flu.
The statement also stressed that annual vaccination is especially vital for at-risk groups, including the elderly, pregnant women, young children, and individuals with chronic health conditions.
