The Georgian Parliament has passed amendments to the Code of Administrative Offenses, tightening penalties for marijuana and hemp-related activities.
Under the new law:
-
First-time possession of small amounts (up to 10g cannabis, 5g dried, or 10g raw) will incur administrative penalties.
-
Repeat offenses may result in fines, community service, or up to 1 year in prison.
-
Moderate possession (up to 155g cannabis, 70g dried, or 150g raw) carries up to 6 years in prison; illegal production or transport, 3–7 years.
-
Larger quantities (up to 750g cannabis, 250g dried, or 500g raw) may lead to 5–8 years, or 6–9 years for production/transport.
-
Exceptionally large amounts exceed those limits and are punishable by 8–20 years or life imprisonment.
