The closing session in the case of Mzia Amaghlobeli, founder of Batumelebi and Netgazeti, resumes today at Batumi City Court, where she is expected to deliver her final statement.
Supporters, colleagues, and friends have gathered outside the courthouse in a show of solidarity.
The previous session on August 1 lasted over nine hours. Amaghlobeli's lawyer, Maia Mtsariashvili, presented the closing argument, followed by rebuttals from both sides. Mtsariashvili later told reporters that Amaghlobeli had stood throughout the lengthy proceedings, and it was unreasonable to expect her to give her final remarks the same day.
Amaghlobeli was first detained on January 11 during a protest near Batumi’s Police Main Department on administrative charges. She was released on a written agreement but later re-arrested under Article 353 of the Criminal Code, which relates to assaulting a police officer and carries a possible sentence of 4 to 7 years in prison.
