A regular meeting under the Incident Prevention and Response Mechanism (IPRM) was held in Ergneti, where key security and humanitarian issues were discussed.
Irakli Antadze, Deputy Director of the Analytical Department of Georgia’s State Security Service, stated that the primary topics included the illegal detention of Georgian citizens and ongoing cases of unlawful “borderization.” In recent weeks, thirteen instances of borderization have been recorded along the occupation line, and ten Georgian citizens remain held by the de facto Tskhinvali authorities. The parties reviewed all incidents that have occurred since the previous IPRM session.
According to Antadze, representatives of the occupied Tskhinvali region again raised concerns regarding the Georgian police checkpoint in Chorchana. Humanitarian issues were also discussed, and a technical meeting held beforehand addressed plans for irrigation system arrangements.
“The main issue on the agenda was the immediate release of persons held in illegal detention. Unfortunately, we still do not have a concrete answer regarding the timing of their release. With the help of international partners, we continue working to ensure that these individuals return to their families,” Antadze said.
He noted that all major incidents along the occupation line were examined, including new cases of illegal borderization. The Georgian side reaffirmed its position that such actions are unacceptable and pose risks to local communities. The meeting also addressed the issue of freedom of movement, with technical experts and representatives of international organizations participating to explore future cooperation.
Antadze added that the occupation regime persistently alleges that the Chorchana police checkpoint poses a threat—a claim Georgia firmly rejects.
“The occupation regime continuously raises the issue of the Chorchana police checkpoint, claiming it poses a threat. I want to emphasize that a standard police post does not represent any danger. All risks have long been neutralized. The only threat existed at the time when the post was placed for harmful purposes. As for the statements made by representatives of the occupation regime regarding the alleged seizure of the post, the central government has a clear and well-established position on this matter, which was once again conveyed during the meeting,” Antadze said following the session.
