
The award ceremony honouring successful Tbilisi athletes will take place on January 23, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze announced at a session of the capital’s government.
Kaladze noted that the event, held annually since 2018, is one of the key municipal programs aimed at encouraging professional sports and recognizing outstanding athletic achievements. He emphasized that promoting and developing sports remains a top priority for the government.
“The Georgian government has implemented numerous programs in recent years to support successful athletes. The municipality also places special emphasis on promoting a healthy lifestyle and the development of sports,” Kaladze said, adding that he seeks to set an example for younger generations by highlighting the importance of physical activity and healthy living.
According to the Mayor, Tbilisi City Hall has introduced various initiatives and allocated funding to support both professional and amateur sports.
“Tbilisi City Hall continues to actively promote sports, supporting both professional and amateur development through various projects, programs, and initiatives, for which dedicated funding has been allocated.
One of the key programs aimed at encouraging professional sports and recognizing outstanding athletes is the annual award ceremony for successful Tbilisi athletes, which has been held since 2018. This initiative serves to honour athletes’ achievements and contributions to the city’s sporting life,” he said.
Since 2018, a total of 931 athletes have been awarded under the program. This year, 236 athletes from Tbilisi who achieved notable success at the World and European Championships will receive awards. In addition, five women’s football teams and one amputee football team will also be honoured. Kaladze said the budget allocated for the program in 2025 amounts to 1,297,000 GEL.
